Phillip Schofield will be back for the Soap Awards next month
Phillip Schofield has confirmed his departure from This Morning but it won't be long before viewers see him again on their ITV screens. In a statement confirming his departure from This Morning, Schofield confirmed he would be back for a prime time presenting role next month.
In a statement posted by ITV on Saturday, May 20, in which Schofield confirmed his departure from This Morning, he also said he would be back soon, adding: "I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month.”
The 61-year-old TV presenter will not return to co-host the morning talk show with Holly Willoughby, with Thursday’s show being his last. He will continue to present “peak time shows” for ITV including next month’s The British Soap Awards and a new prime time series, the broadcaster has said. He has presented This Morning with Willoughby since 2009 and they also co-host ITV ’s Dancing On Ice together. And, according to the Mirror, he agreed to walk away from This Morning on the basis that conversations about his roles on other shows like Dancing on Ice remain active – and he was promised a new show which he will host solo.
Meanwhile, ITV bosses are thought to see his exit as an opportunity to “lock in” Holly at the channel after she built a relationship with the BBC while hosting reality show Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof.
