A brutal heatwave is hitting the Southwest over the next few days, with warnings covering three states.

Pet owners in the Southwest have been warned not to leave their pets in their cars as temperatures could reach 'lethal' levels within minutes.A brutal heat wave is hitting the region over the next few days, affecting California, Arizona and Nevada.California has seen intense temperatures this summer, including some which soared past 100 F in certain areas.

'Forecasters added that people should wear lightweight, loosefitting clothing and limit strenuous activity to the early morning or the evening.If you are working outdoors, you should schedule frequent breaks in the shade or an air-conditioned room.The NWS also advised that people should keep an eye out for symptoms of heat exhaustion and call 911 if you suspect you or someone else is suffering from heatstroke.This warning is in place from 11:00 a.m. PDT/MST on Wednesday to 8:00 p.m.
