“I will forever cherish him,” a reader called Franken, wrote. “I was a chubby kid and my Mother found him when I was 9 or ten 1979-1980, he helped me immensely. Wrote me to keep me positive and felt like he truly cared. Everything stuck pretty much, I had issues occasionally with weight, but I still follow his advice and exercise. I weigh 130lbs I'm 5'7.
“Later that night, when I was back on the air, I joked about how cluttered the inside of the limo was with Ho Ho wrappers,” he continued. “The phone rang, and it was Richard, laughing his butt off. I couldn't believe he was listening, but he said he wanted to listen in for a while to hear me tell about meeting him. He thought my Ho Ho wrappers joke was hilarious. He was a very nice guy, and I feel honored that I got the opportunity to share some time and space with him. RIP Richard.
“He was a jovial person and we need more people like him,” one PEOPLE reader added. “Thank you Richard for being you. One less positive person in this world. It's really a shame. Rest in peace.”
