Philadelphia is the number one 'most walkable' city in the U.S.

as the number one best city in the United States to walk in, allowing for it to come ahead of locations such as New York, N.Y. and Chicago, Ill. .

“Philadelphia is beloved for its cultural and historical attractions, and its walkability is appreciated by residents and visitors,” reads the list. “The most walkable parts of the city include Rittenhouse Square, Washington Square West, Filter Square and Center City East.”the city’s friendliness to those who prefer to use their two feet rather than take transportation, touting walking tours as “an excellent way to uncover interesting facts about Philadelphia.

“This award recognizes Philadelphia as the most walkable city in the country, which is exactly how we want our city to be known,” says Visit Philadelphia CEO and president, Angela Val, via press release. “Tourists can easily stroll from neighborhood to neighborhood, having dinner in one part of the city before walking 10 minutes to grab a drink or dessert in another, sighting along the way.

“Plus, walkability is a huge draw for conventions, concerts, sporting events and other large-scale happenings.
