Yes, the attention the U.S. men’s gymnastics team member has garnered is mostly due to the fact that his pommel horse prowess recently earned his team a breakthrough bronze medal and himself the chance to score an individual gold medal during the apparatus final on Saturday. But it’s mostly because of what he was doing beforehand.
Then as soon as he whipped those glasses off, he was Superman, nailing his routine down in what was essentially “just another day of doing the gymnastics,” he later said.
