Penn State has received a key American Bar Association approval in its plan to reunite its two law school campuses.Approval by the ABA’s Section on Legal Education is a major step toward completion of the proposed reunification, albeit not the last. Final accreditation decisions still rest with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and U.S. Department of Education.
In its filings with the ABA earlier this year, the university said its plan envisions an in-residence juris doctor class of 200 students per year, with 125 based in Carlisle and 75 based in University Park. Overall faculty staffing will remain at current levels. The unified law school will actually be the fourth iteration for Penn State’s law school since it entered the legal education field by acquiring the then-independent Dickinson School of Law in 1997.
