Pearland rolls to win over Clear Springs in girls basketball playoff opener
Pearland head coach Jere' Adams and the Lady Oilers took a 61-24 win over Clear Springs Monday night in a Class 6A basketball playoff game at Clear Lake High School.When Amirah Gray, Clear Springs’ best basketball player, sustained a game-ending injury with 1:11 left in the first half Monday night, the Lady Chargers already trailed Pearland by 17 points.
Pearland, which dominated from start to finish, limited Clear Springs to just three second-half points.The Lady Mustangs defeated Pasadena Dobie, 64-39, and will pose a serious threat to Pearland’s playoff life. “Overall, we could have done better,” Adams said. “We missed a lot of easy layups, and we were not moving like we should on defense.Pearland never trailed Monday after scoring the game’s first four points.Pearland junior guard Nyah Hardy scored 16 of her game-high 22 points in the first half, often at the end of a fast break or finding an open lane when three Clear Springs players collapsed around 6-foot, 3-inch Lady Oilers post RyLee Grays.
