The United Kingdom’s Supreme Court on Tuesday began hearing a case over how the word 'woman' can be used in the country's laws.
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - MARCH 07: A women's rights protester holds a placard as she marches during an International Women's Day protest rally on March 07, 2024 in Melbourne, Australia.
For Woman Scotland argues, however, the definitions of “sex,” “man” and “woman” should instead be based off “immutable biological criteria.” It cites the U.K.’s 2010 Equality Act and its 2004 Gender Recognition Act as listing two contrasting legal definitions for what a woman is. A crowdfunding campaign to back the group’s efforts has raised nearly 210,000 GBP, or about 2$261,000.
“Today the Supreme Court will solemnly debate what a ‘woman’ is,” he wrote. “It’s such a ludicrous, comic-opera proposition you wonder how the judges will keep a straight face. Just ask a woman. This is surely peak woke: an end to the decade of misogynistic sophistry.”
