El mexicano Pato O’Ward fue proclamado el miércoles como el ganador oficial del Gran Premio de St. Petersburgo, la primera carrera de la temporada de la IndyCar, luego que la categoría de monoplazas anuló el triunfo de Josef Newgarden debido a que su equipo Team Penske manipuló su sistema “push to pass” durante la carrera. O’Ward, quien compite con McLaren, había quedado originalmente en el segundo puesto.
“Aunque la violación no fue detectada en St. Petersburg, IndyCar descubrió la manipulación durante el calentamiento el domingo en Long Beach y de inmediato se aseguró que todos los monoplazas cumplieran con las normas para el Gran Premio de de Long Beach”. “A partir de la carrera de esta semana en el Barber Motorsports Park se aplicarán nuevos procedimientos de inspección técnica para que no se cometa esta infracción”, añadió.
