PATH train fare increases went into effect on May 4 for trips, including reduced-fare price increases for riders aged 65 and older.
The fare for a single PATH train ride is now $3.25, up from $3. Reduced fare for riders ages 65 and older, as well as those with disabilities, also increased on Monday to $1.60, up a dime from $1.50.
Bundles of trips also increased: 10, 20 and 40 trips on the TAPP Card are now $3.10 per ride, up from $2.85.throughout the 118-year-old transit system. Upgrades include an ADA fare gate pilot at the World Trade Center station in Lower Manhattan aimed at “These game-changing service enhancements and improved fare payment options are continuing to provide more frequent and reliable service to our customers,” PATH Director and General Manager Clarelle DeGraffe said.
The fare increases arrive as the Port Authority, which runs the train system, also announced more service. Starting on May 17, PATH will operate seven days a week for the first time in 25 years.
“The return of seven-day service on all four PATH lines for the first time in nearly a quarter-century is a major milestone for our riders and our region,” Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole said. “These significant improvements were only made possible thanks to our riders’ patience and support during the PATH Forward program. That focused and sustained investment, in infrastructure and in our riders, is what makes milestones like this possible.
”Direct Journal Square to 33rd Street service will run between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. on weekends; direct Hoboken to World Trade Center service will resume weekend service. Dedicated weekend service will also operate on the Hoboken to 33rd Street line. The Journal Square to 33rd Street and Hoboken to 33rd Street lines will run every 10 minutes; Hoboken to World Trade Center service will run every 20 minutes.
“Having seven-day service on all our lines is a blueprint for more frequent, faster and more reliable service for our customers,” DeGraffe said. Port Authority reps said they will increase service during rush hours and late nights. Friday night service will operate every 20 minutes until 2 a.m., which they said is consistent with Saturday night service levels. Barbara Russo-Lennon is the transit reporter at amNewYork.
