Donovan Solano’s game-winning hit in the 10th inning completes comeback

Machado’s first home run, in the second inning, was the initial answer to the Dodgers’ five-run first off Matt Waldron. His second preceded Jackson Merrill’s game-tying homer off Blake Treinen in the ninth after both Adrián Morejón and Jeremiah Estrada helped the Padres remain within striking distance in a two-run game.
That Morejón was even pitching, down by two runs, was a sign of the changing dynamic as before the acquisition of Jason Adam and Tanner Scott, he’d emerged as a go-to arm to protect late leads. The same goes for Estrada, who started Tuesday’s ninth inning after a scoreless eighth from Logan Gillaspie.
