Tim Hill returning from finger injury, Brett Sullivan called up as Padres' third catcher ahead of Friday's game against the Giants
playing through knee discomfort, the Padres called upto serve as a third catcher and overall depth over giving an audition to top prospectTim HillFriday’s first pitch against the Giants is at 6:40 p.m.Hill is returning from a left ring finger sprain. He appeared in two minor league rehab games, allowing six runs — five earned — in two-thirds of an inning at low Single-A Lake Elsinore and then striking out a batter in a perfect inning on Thursday at Triple-A El Paso.
Hill is 1-4 with a 4.22 ERA, 26 strikeouts and a career-worst 1.45 WHIP over 42 2/3 innings this year with the Padres. Sullivan is hitting .170/.184/.298 with one homer and five RBIs in 21 games in the majors. He was hitting .328/.401/.517 with seven homers in 61 games with El Paso while seeing most of his time behind the plate.
Sullivan has also seen time the last two years at third base and left field, flexibility that could come in handy as Sanchez ,
