Kim altered his winter training regimen to get ready for his third big-league campaign.
And he wanted to continue to be on the field from day one to the end of the season, which was not guaranteed. Kim, who started 117 games at shortstop and 17 at third base last season, was always going to be the Padres’ primary second baseman this year. But the thinking was he might sit against certain difficult right-handers while Jake Cronenworth slid from first to second.
