Padres hope young Korean, in second MLB season, can step up at plate in absence of Fernando Tatis Jr.

Ha-seong Kim spent the offseason working on his offense, altering the plane of his swing in a quest to better hit faster pitches.

Kim worked this offseason with Jung-Ho Kang, one of Korea’s most accomplished hitters who also played briefly in the majors. “It’s 200 percent different,” he said when asked to compare his first day of spring training this year and last. “I’m way more comfortable this year.”Wil Myers doesn’t really know if, after all these years and all the talk about him being traded, he’s surprised to be the longest-tenured Padres player.Myers is again on the trade market, as the Padres are attempting to provide some payroll flexibility by moving him or first baseman Eric Hosmer.
