Cease, 28, was acquired by the Padres just before they left for Korea for their opening series against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Seoul. Cease was expected to work as the team's No. 3 starter behind right-handed pitchers Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove, but he's quickly turned into the ace of the Padres this season.Cease entered Thursday's start with a record of 9-8 and a 3.76 ERA across 122 innings pitched. Now, he's lowered his ERA to 3.50 on the season.
