The police officer has been suspended from the school district and Bethlehem police force.
District Attorney Stephen Baratta’s office announced a Wednesday afternoon news conference at Bethlehem City Hall that Costas Alestas is a school resource officer at East Hills Middle School. The district said he’s also a soccer coach.
A message was left with a number listed for Alestas requesting a call back to a reporter, but it was not immediately returned.: “Upon receipt of information indicating an alleged relationship between a student and a Bethlehem Police Department School Resource Officer and soccer coach serving East Hills Middle School, the Bethlehem Area School District immediately began its investigation and notified all mandated agencies.
“Our students’ physical and emotional safety has been and will continue to be the BASD’s first priority. The BASD will provide counseling support as needed.
