While the volume reportedly decreased overnight later in the week, locals are still voicing their concerns. Among them are housing advocates, who believe that the loud music overnight is intended to drive away people experiencing homelessness.
The gas station has reportedly posted signs that read, “Due to safety concerns and increased complaints, we cannot allow loiterers or panhandlers to pump gas.”
The Inquirer interviewed Rev. Robert Emberger, executive director emeritus of the Take Whosoever Gospel Mission, located across the street from the gas station.
“The fact is, unless everyone has access to private space, you will end up with people being forced to live in public space, not out of choice, but out of necessity,” he told the Inquirer.
