A county official in western Pa. could face several lawsuits after altering a local newspaper's story on a separate suit involving the county and posting it on her social media accounts.
This is the Washington County Courthhouse in Washington, Pa., on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020. The Washington County Clerk of Courts is accused of posting a newspaper story on her Facebook page but altering it to change its meaning. An elected county official in western Pennsylvania is being threatened with lawsuits by a county commissioner, her own board of commissioners and a local newspaper.
“Her inaccurate quote by me is a clear, deliberate attempt to place the county, the warden and myself in a false light with the citizens of Washington County, and she is clearly doing so for political gains,” said Vaughan, who said she’d speak with her attorney and the county’s attorneys about possible action against Davis.
The newspaper said that Davis edited the quote to read that “no policies and procedures were followed” and that “there is wrongdoing on behalf of Washington County.” The Observer-Reporter told Jones’ story that it was speaking with its attorneys concerning “Ms. Davis’ copyright infringement and misrepresentation of facts.”
