This marks the second baby box installed in the Wiregrass area since August 2023, the first being in Dothan.OZARK, Ala. - The city of Ozark is now among the few Alabama cities to implement Safe Haven Baby Boxes., located at the Ozark Fire Station on Mixon School Road, will allow a no-strings-attached and safe method for mothers to give up their newborn without consequences.
Mayor Blankenship says that the addition of baby boxes and Alabama’s Safe Haven Law, which gives parents up to 45 days to surrender a child, are steps in the right direction. ”There is no excuse with two of them being right here in the Wiregrass. It is a great opportunity for someone who is having a difficult time and feels they need to give up a child and we are just excited about the possibility of someone adopting a kid rather than something bad happening to them,” Blankenship said.
Since getting the first Safe Haven Baby Box in the state in January, Alabama has had three surrenders so far.
