A son of the notorious drug lord known as El Chapo arrived in the U.S. on Friday following his extradition from Mexico to face drug trafficking charges, officials said.

"This action is the most recent step in the Justice Department's effort to attack every aspect of the cartel's operations," Garland said in a statement. "The fight against the cartels has involved incredible courage by United States law enforcement and Mexican law enforcement and military servicemembers, many of whom have given their lives in the pursuit of justice."
He was captured in an overnight raid that had been in the works for more than six months, officials said at the time.
