In June 1981, the CDC published its first report on what would become known as HIV/AIDS. Over the past four decades, many individuals and organizations have worked to support the fight to end HIV/AIDS, as well as provide resources and care for the estimated 38 million people living with HIV and 36.3 million individuals worldwide who have died from complications related to the virus.
The arts community has been especially present in these efforts. In honor of the city of Chicago designating 2022 as the"" we invite you to reflect on the history of HIV/AIDS in Chicago, the dance community's efforts to provide support to those impacted by the epidemic, and the future of HIV/AIDS advocacy in Chicago and beyond. The event includes a dance performance, panel discussion, and reception.by Dr. Ross A. Slotten; $15 general admission; $5 youth and seniors .

One of the main directives of the committee is to tell the stories of people who live a range of sexual identities and gender expressions within the larger urban context of Chicago and to discuss how and why the physical body matters to LGBT history; the evolution of the queer family; the interaction of people in social spaces with political consequences; and the queer body politic, a movement full of promise and struggle.
