Oscars 2023: Top Gun: Maverick snubbed despite being credited as having ‘saved Hollywood’

Despite Top Gun: Maverick receiving multiple Academy Award nominations, the box office’s No. 1 movie of 2022 only took home one award on Sunday.

The Top Gun sequel was nominated for six Oscars, including best picture, at the 95th Academy Awards, but it only won the Oscar for best sound.Tom Cruise did not attend the Oscars, choosing to skip the ceremony in favor of continuing to shoot Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part Two, according to a report.

While attending the Oscars luncheon last month, legendary director Steven Spielberg credited Cruise and his performance in Top Gun: Maverick with saving the film industry.
