Eugene Kittridge becomes a foe in Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One, director Christopher McQuarrie reveals. Played by Henry Czerny, Kittridge debuted in 1996's Mission: Impossible as the Director of the IMF . After wrongfully accusing Ethan Hunt of being a mole, however, he disappeared from the franchise.
Now, Kittridge is back in the upcoming Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One. Specific plot details are still scant at this point about the film, but McQuarrie tells Entertainment Weekly that Hunt will be facing his old boss, who is now a foe. Based on Czerny's quote, it sounds like he's adamant about coming out on top this time when he faces Hunt and IMF again. Given his expansive knowledge about the independent espionage agency, not to mention his motivations, it's safe to say that Kittridge will stop at nothing to ensure his victory. It's worth noting, however, that it's still uncertain what the main conflict is in Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One.
Kittridge almost made a voice cameo in Mission: Impossible — Fallout, as previously revealed by McQuarrie. But since his planned role was inconsequential to the story of the film, it was for the best that they decided to scrap it and make a bigger deal out of his return in Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One. If viewers can see him and Hunt fully collaborating, it would be a great way to bring the franchise full circle.
