GOLDEN, Colo. — Restrictions for water activities along Clear Creek in Golden and Jefferson County went into effect at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The temporary restrictions will limit certain activities and are in effect from the western boundary of unincorporated Jefferson County through the eastern limits of the City of Golden, including Vanover Park,Kayaks, whitewater canoes, multi-chambered professionally guided rafts, and river boards are exempt, however, everyone is urged to use extreme caution due to the safety concerns surrounding swift-moving water and floating debris.

Anyone participating in the allowed activities above must be using a Coast Guard-approved flotation vest and helmet designed for water use.The sheriff's office said they restricted water activities due to the water temperature, and other safety concerns such as rocks in the water. They also took the water height and flows into consideration and said levels are expected to rise in the coming days as heavy snowpack continues to melt.
