To a list of firsts for Nora Vargas on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors — first Latina elected to it and first woman of color, immigrant and fronteriza to serve on it — addElected in 2020 in a South County district anchored by the cities of Imperial Beach, National City and Chula Vista, Vargas has already announced ambitious plans to improve the county’s quality of life by boosting access to health care and targeting the air pollution that torments communities such as Barrio Logan.
