.JarrettBell says Richard Sherman is still a key player for the San Francisco 49ers as conference title games loom.

The Seahawks’ inability to keep him and optically even worse, to release him as he was rehabbing a torn Achilles tendon, looms as a huge, hindsight-is-20/20 factor with a championship in the mix.

Simply put, he’s back at the top of his game — which could get a stiff test on Sunday if he’s matched against Davante Adams, who set a Packers playoff record last weekend with 160 yards on eight catches, with two TDs. Typically, Sherman stays put at left cornerback while Adams lines up on the opposite side of the field.

This is what some of us love about Sherman, whose edge is probably further fueled by the fact that he’s a converted receiver who entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick. In any event, if Muhammad Ali were a cornerback, he’d be Sherman. Back to risk. That’s one of the words that Lynch, the 49ers’ GM, used in assessing the home run they’ve hit with the loquacious cornerback. Lynch, a former all-pro safety, knew from the instant the Seahawks cut Sherman he wanted him. Sure, they have a connection as fellow Stanford grads. But Lynch learned a lot more about Sherman while working as a game analyst for Fox Sports.
