citing crime and taxes. If more companies leave, elected officials would be confronted with a dwindling tax base and fewer people working. This would be disastrous for Chicago.

Commercial real estate owners are facing record amounts of available space, soaring construction costs and property taxes, and higher interest rates to borrow money. A head tax could push the commercial real estate market into financial ruin.The City Council and Johnson should consider the following to grow and stabilize businesses in Chicago.

In fact, I have not bought gasoline in Chicago because of high taxes and safety concerns. Those who have the ability to shop in Indiana or surrounding suburban communities leave Chicago to save money and out of concern for safety. Helping at-risk youths obtain jobs could help reduce violence and boost the economy. Companies working with youths from the juvenile detention center should be incentivized. The goal should be to train and teach our young people that one mistake does not derail a life. The Chicago Apprenticeship Network, created in 2017, should do more to target at-risk youths from ZIP codes with high levels of unemployment.
