UPDATE - Officials report that a person who was initially reported as missing after an explosion at a Cache County home last night was found dead around midnight.
NEWTON, Utah — One person died and two others were critically injured in a Cache County house explosion Wednesday night.Calls to report the explosion and possible burn victims came in at approximately 6 p.m. to the Cache County Sheriff's Office.When fire units arrived they found one person outside the home and a second could be heard inside the home yelling for help.
A third person was not located initially and officials reported they died in the explosion and their body was found in the home around midnight. According to a neighbor who saw the explosion and spoke to FOX 13 News, he smelled propane gas and heard cries for help from inside the structure. The neighbor said could not get to the people inside, so ran home to tell his wife to call 911.
The unidentified person inside the home was rescued around 6:30 p.m. Both occupants found were transported to Logan Regional and Cache Valley Hospital; one is reported to be in critical condition. Another neighbor said that the explosion blew pieces of the house hundreds of yards away onto his property.
