Opinion: On World Refugee Day, let’s celebrate our stories and let our voices be heard
Let us not only be recognized for what we have been through or overcome, but for who we are and what we are becoming. As each one of us lives through our challenges, we learn to overcome them. Some of us face natural disasters, economic loss, disease, and some of us face displacement.
As spring showers cleanse the earth from debris and create running streams, the eradication of edges washes away misconceptions and ungrounded biases. We find that “others” are not dissonant, rather harmony is found in similarities that cross differential lines.
