The 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony is set to begin after a rough start to the summer games. Suspected acts of sabotage targeted France's flagship high-speed rail network and rain is coming down over the Seine river, where athletes are set to parade.
AP is live from Paris ahead of the opening ceremony for the 2024 Olympic Games. Instead of a traditional march into a stadium, about 6,800 athletes will parade on more than 90 boats on the Seine River for 3.7 miles. This will start the ceremony, not mark the end of it, another break from tradition.
Representatives will place banana leaves in a vessel, which will be sealed and placed near the waves during the surfing events. “I’m very emotional,” Lewis told France 2 television during its broadcast. “First of all, I understand what these young people are going through and I appreciate the fact that they have come to a wonderful, beautiful country and a beautiful city. A lot of these athletes have never been to Paris or seen this energy before. So, I think it’s incredible.

Police officers in flak jackets wandered the shores of the Seine as people on Olympic floats practiced for their big debut in the opening ceremonies. People arrived hours before the start of the opening ceremony along the Seine River, seeking the best spot at the viewing areas. Some brought folding chairs, books, sandwiches and water.
He left Lille on Thursday, traveling in a convoy of buses alongside players from a few other teams. A team spokesperson said multiple teams chose to travel at the same time for security purposes. Even the person or people who will have that honor still didn’t know they were been picked just hours before the opening ceremony, the Paris Games chief organizer said. Paris resident Linnett Hernandez Valdes, who was preparing her food truck for visitors, says she understands the level of security “considering the event of such magnitude.” She didn’t experience any trouble getting in despite the sabotage to the train.
