The incident occurred on Feb. 3 at Bexley Middle School during morning announcements and brought a swift response from upset parents. Students at the school held a walkout on Friday,According to a letter sent to parents by Principal Jason Caudill, an image of an orangutan eating a watermelon appeared on a green-screen background after students read a fact about Black History Month.

Superintendent Jason Fine and other school officials condemned the incident and promised to conduct a “full and thorough investigation.” There have been no reports of students facing punishment for the incident.Bexley students say there have been other race-related incidents. School board President Alissha Mitchell said more work needs to be done in regard to racism, WCMH reports.
