Franklin County Common Pleas Court records show Demetris Ortega, 49, of Columbus, is charged with failure to stop after an accident, a third-degree felony, and with driving under the influence, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Naimo Abdirahman was walking across Morse Road at about 2:40 a.m. on April 20, 2022, when she was struck by a vehicle. Police say a passenger got out of the vehicle, which was not a patrol car, and told a witness to call 911. The passenger got back into the vehicle, which drove off.that Ortega was not charged with vehicular homicide because they were unable to conclusively prove that he was at fault in causing the crash.
Reports say Ortega was relieved of duty after the incident. He also was charged with OVI in 2015 following a crash in 2015.
