'Having respect for ourselves doesn't mean we lack respect for her,' Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. 'It means we won't let everyday people be dismissed.'

The comments were the latest in a string of public digs between Pelosi and the"squad," a collective of progressive lawmakers, consisting of Ocasio-Cortez as well as Reps. Rashida Tlaib , Ilhan Omar and Ayanna Pressley .

In response, Ocasio-Cortez fired back at Pelosi by tweeting:"That public 'whatever' is called public sentiment. And wielding the power to shift it is how we actually achieve meaningful change in this country." Ocasio-Cortez first spoke out against Pelosi's approval of a $4.6 billion Senate-passed version of the border funding bill without first trying to make changes last week.
