“My position, where I stand, is I’m managing this team, and I don’t have control of those decisions. My focus is getting this team better, … and winning as many games as possible,”…
ARLINGTON, Texas – Mark Kotsay was in the air flying with his team to Texas when he learned of the A’s Las Vegas land deal in a text from general manager David Forst.
“I feel for the fans with this announcement,” Kotsay said Friday before the A’s opened a three-game series against the Rangers at Globe Life Stadium. “Not just the fans, but the employees that have [spent] their lives here, most that have been in this organization probably longer than I have. Because one of the things about this organization is the continuity and the loyalty they’ve shown to their employees.
Kotsay said he’s been aware of owner John Fisher’s desire to replace the A’s 57-year-old ballpark since Fisher bought majority control of the team in 2005. Fisher assumed full ownership of the team in 2016. The A’s arrived in Arlington with a 3-16 record, the worst in the majors. Now they open a seven-game trip not certain where to call home.
