A 911 caller made a false report to Sheriff's Department dispatchers that a person was walking around outside Ramona High School with a firearm, officials said.
Investigators did not find any threats to staff or students at Ramona High School after an alleged swatting incident Thursday put the school on lockdown. Sheriff’s investigators said dispatch received a call around 1:40 p.m. that an individual armed with a gun was standing outside the school, on Hanson Lane near San Vicente Road, Sgt. Sean Gallagher said in a news release. Within minutes, deputies arrived, Gallagher said. The school and neighboring school campuses were locked down.
Ultimately, deputies did not find a threat on the campus. The lockdown was lifted, and deputies remained on campus for the rest of the school day. Gallagher said investigators believe the caller was “swatting” — a type of prank in which someone makes a false report to law enforcement, prompting them to send officers or deputies, including SWAT teams, to someone’s address. Ramona Unified School District officials could not be immediately reached for comment.
