Northern California is preparing for more rain and widespread flooding just days after a major storm left the region drenched from a record-setting downpour.
There are 3 to 8 inches of rain estimated for California’s Bay Area and central coast starting Wednesday and continuing into Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. The central coast area, which is between Los Angeles and the Bay Area, includes Santa Barbara, Pismo Beach and Big Sur. The heavy rain is a byproduct of a so-called atmospheric river, a long, narrow storm system that pulls moisture from the Pacific Ocean inland, the weather service said. The region will remain under aThe National Weather Service on Tuesday predicted widespread flooding because the ground is already saturated from rain, and “extensive street flooding” in parts of the Bay Area and the central coast.
The flooding could trigger shallow landslides, the weather service said. Residents in the region should prepare for the possibility of power outages and road closures that could last for several days, the agency said.
