The bill was introduced by Sen. Tom Cotton Wednesday.

Sen. Tom Cotton , R-Ark., speaks during a confirmation hearing for then-Secretary of Defense nominee Lloyd Austin before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Capitol Hill, Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021, in Washington. The “No Visas for Violent Criminals Act” would deport non-citizens convicted of a crime while protesting. Cosponsoring the measure are Sen. Ted Budd, R-N.C., and Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn. Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., also introduced a companion bill in the House.

Language in the bill says a non-citizen offender would immediately lose their visa if convicted of a crime. It would also set a 60-day deadline for the individual to be deported. The Biden administration’s inaction against pro-Hamas mobs has only emboldened these extremists,” Sen. Cotton said. “Our legislation makes clear that a green card does not give individuals the right to break our laws in support of anti-Semitic views.”

The proposal comes one day after anti-Israel demonstrations took to the streets of Washington, D.C., in response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address to Congress. Vice President Kamala Harris spoke out against protesters who burned the American flag.. “That flag is a symbol of our highest ideals as a nation and represents the promise of America. It should never be desecrated in that way.”“Now, people will say ‘oh, it’s unconstitutional,’” Trump said.
