“It reminded me exactly of last year, game-winning interception, oh my gosh,” said Jackson. “This was bigger than our state championship game last year, it meant more to us. We’ve been preparing all offseason for them, and we had their number. Now we’re going for another state championship.”
Ford did his part but instead of breaking free for long scoring runs, he continually pounded the ball between the tackles, logging 32 carries for 171 yards and a touchdown. Held up by teammates at the end of the game as he dealt with cramping, he still dove ahead for six yards and a first down to seal the game.
Running back Josh Moore then made what might have been the play of the game, breaking free for a 57-yard run down to the 15-yard line with a minute to go before the half. Ford rolled right on the next play and found a wide-open Jeremiah Pruitt for a touchdown and 14-0 lead with 35 seconds remaining - one of just three completions on the day for the quarterback.
Haile finished with 11 catches for 123 yards, while Brooks finished with seven for 75 and the lone score.
