Connecticut's Lou Lopez-Senechal, right, roughs up Texas' Aaliyah Moore while Aaliyah Edwards, left, helps with the double team.STORRS, Conn. — When two of the top five women’s basketball teams in the country got together on Monday night, there naturally was a great deal of talent on the floor. The nature of the game also was influenced by players who weren’t on the floor.

Texas did start former DePaul star Sonya Morris, who left during the third quarter of a season-opening victory over Louisiana on Friday with a back injury. She responded with a team-high 21 points.“Not enough Tylenol for me to take after watching that,” Texas coach Vic Schaefer said. “Long time since I’ve had a guard like that go off and light us up like that.”

Fudd was helped out by Aubrey Griffin with 14 points and Lou Lopez Senechal with 12. Junior point guard Nika Muhl tied her career high with nine assists. The Longhorns had no answer for the Huskies’ fast break kick. At intermission, UConn had outscored Texas 14-2 off fast breaks and had six steals to Texas’ three. There were 11 lead changes and seven ties in the first half. Each team had double-digit turnovers .
