Chinese brand's UK MD Matt Galvin has joined its Swedish rival, with no replacement lined up
Nio’s UK boss Matt Galvin has left the company for rival firm Polestar with no replacement in the frame, raising questions over the EV brand’s long-mooted plans for a UK launch. Galvin has been at Nio for two years, having previously spent six years as commercial director for Volvo UK. Before that, he headed up used car operations for Mercedes, and previously worked in the remarketing division at Renault.
Autocar has approached Nio for an official comment. Nio is facing a stiff 21% tariff on all cars it sells in Europe from July onwards, under a new framework set up by the EU to compensate for significant state subsidisation of Chinese EV manufacturing. The brand has said, however, that its commitment to the EV market in Europe is "unwavering", and added: "We will continue to serve our users and explore new opportunities within Europe despite protectionism.
