Authorities arrested nine individuals who were unlawfully occupying a former motel in Salt Lake City that is being converted into a winter overflow shelter.
Salt Lake City police officers said they received information in late October about multiple people who had potentially burglarized and trespassed inside several old hotel rooms at 1990 West North Temple Street. The motel is set to open as a winter overflow shelter in late November. Numerous people reportedly gained access to more than 10 of the rooms during the building’s conversion process. Authorities said the individuals refused to leave when asked by management, adding that some shelter workers reported feeling intimidated on the job.More than 100 people arrested with fentanyl, heroin, meth on popular Salt Lake trail
On Oct. 29, officers responded to the shelter and located 13 individuals illegally occupying the rooms, resulting in nine arrests. Several suspects were found with outstanding warrants, and some were in possession of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.
