So far as Ms Sturgeon’s personal reputation is concerned, a recent Ipsos poll found that 52 per cent say they are satisfied with how she performed as First Minister, while 43 per cent are dissatisfied – figures that match exactly those that Ipsos recorded the last time they asked the question when she was still in post, in December last year.
That said, the continuing investigation is not without consequences for Mr Yousaf and the SNP. Support for the SNP did fall during the party’s leadership contest – by as much as five points. Mr Yousaf’s narrow victory over his rival, Kate Forbes, by 52 per cent to 48 per cent, was unconvincing given he was far ahead of her in endorsements from elected SNP parliamentarians.
