Alabama’s Nick Saban: Texas A&M ‘bought every player’ in top-ranked recruiting class
Alabama's Nick Saban said Texas A&M, led by Jimbo Fisher, a former assistant of his, “bought every player” in its top-ranked recruiting class.COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher has said his top-ranked class in 2022 came about. His mentor strongly disagrees, and that had hordes of Aggies red-nosed in anger late Wednesday night.
“We were second in recruiting last year — A&M was first,” Alabama coach Nick Saban told a group of Birmingham, Ala., business leaders . “A&M bought every player on their team. Made a deal for name, image and likeness. We didn’t buy one player.”Saban essentially is accusing A&M of breaking state laws. Fisher has long said no A&M recruit in the class of 2022 had name, image and likeness deals in place prior to arriving to College Station, because that would be illegal in the state of Texas. Fisheracross all 50 states, to make the still-new NIL fairer for all college programs.
Saban, who was Fisher’s boss at LSU two decades ago when the duo won a national title in 2003, went on to say he didn’t know if Alabama was “going to be able to sustain that in the future, because more people are doing it” in terms of setting up NIL deals prior to players’ arrivals to their respective colleges.in the 247Sports.
