Video of car plowing through Aldi wall released by police.
A fire official says security footage shows the driver, an older man, backing out of a parking space before accelerating into the wall.
The Aldi was evacuated when crews arrived until the car was pulled from the wall. 19 News has learned the driver left the scene with his son. Firefighters say emergency personnel took two people to area hospitals for their injuries; one person from the outside of the grocery store and the other inside.
The Lakewood Fire Department and tow trucks worked together to remove the vehicle about 90 minutes after the crash. Officials did not say if the driver would face charges but did note the reason behind the driver’s acceleration is under investigation.It will remain closed until the wall is fixed.Copyright 2023 WOIO.
