By the end of his first movie — and the first entry in the shared universe — Man of Steel saw its main hero snap General Zod's neck. That act would be the first of many controversies in the DCEU and related to Cavill's Superman in general.
Adding to that, the newspaper's shot of Superman stopping a train is likely a direct connection to the character's early motto, "Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound." The connection to the comics does not stop there, as the framing of Corenswet's Superman is reminiscent of a moment from DC Comics' "Superman for All Seasons," which is one of Gunn's inspirations for the Superman movie.
