No Hard Feelings, the new R-rated comedy starring Jennifer Lawrence, hits a box office milestone on its way to breaking a 2020s record.
No Hard Feelings is on its way toward setting a box office record for the decade. The movie, which was directed by Gene Stupnitsky, is an R-rated comedy that opened in theaters on June 23. It follows a young woman named Maddie who makes a deal with a married couple to date their 19-year-old son Percy in exchange for a used car.
Per Collider, the No Hard Feelings box office has passed a major milestone at the global box office. Its worldwide gross is now over $50 million, with $20 million from international markets bolstering its $31 million domestic take. The movie is now on its way to being the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy of the decade, and the highest since 2019's Good Boys, which was also directed by Stupnitsky.

No Hard Feelings' success comes at the beginning of an unusually robust run of raunchy R-rated comedies for the modern age. The movies premiering in its wake also have potential box office draws similar to the No Hard Feelings cast and buzzy, divisive premise.
That movie will be followed by the August 18 release of Strays. The movie follows a group of talking dogs on a violent mission punctuated with raunchy jokes about sex, drugs, and other unusual topics for a movie about anthropomorphic animals. The cast is stacked with stars, including Will Ferrell, Jamie Foxx, Will Forte, Isla Fisher, Randall Park, Josh Gad, and Sofia Vergara.
It remains to be seen if either of those two movies can compete with No Hard Feelings. If they do, an R-rated comedy Renaissance might be just around the corner. If not, it might require a few more successes from Stupnitsky over the coming years in order to be properly kick-started.
