Scientists are looking for specific DNA, cells, and molecules in our body which may be cancerous. They've made progress in finding some of these markers in the blood, but it's still tricky to find them accurately and affordably for routine screening.Scientists at Rockefeller University, along with an international team of researchers, have developed a kind of blood test that can zero in on a key protein produced by cancer cells.
The researchers studied a protein called ORF1p, which is made by a specific genetic element in our DNA called L1. To overcome this hurdle, the researchers used a super-sensitive technology called Single Molecule Arrays , which can detect ORF1p at extremely low levels in the blood.
