Democratic lawmakers, on the other hand, have not been nearly as receptive to the idea, accusing Trump of using undocumented immigrants as political pawns.
President Donald Trump presented the idea of relocating detained migrants from the border with Mexico to so-called"sanctuary cities" as an act of political retribution to Democratic politicians who claimed they welcomed undocumented immigrants. However, nearly one-third of those who consider themselves Democrats say they support this proposal, according to a poll published Thursday by the Monmouth University Polling Institute.

Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images “Not only does the Administration lack the legal authority to transfer detainees in this manner, it is shocking that the President and senior Administration officials are even considering manipulating release decisions for purely political reasons,” the chairmen of the House Oversight, Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees said in a letter to the White House and DHS.
However, within hours Trump spoke publicly about his renewed intentions to transport the detained migrants to sanctuary cities across the country, telling reporters “we'll bring them to sanctuary city areas and let that particular area take care of it.”
