Blaze could slot in at 141 pounds during 2025-26 season
Penn State coaches Cael Sanderson, left, and Cody Sanderson signed the nation's top wrestling recruit, Marcus Blaze, on Wednesday. Mark Pynes | [email protected] State’s wrestling roster, already rich with veteran talent and budding stars, grew in star power once again on Wednesday when Marcus Blaze, the nation’s top recruit in the Class of 2025, signed with the Nittany Lions.
He has the frame to grow into a solid 141-pounder. If the Penn State staff chooses to redshirt him, the 141-pound slot could be filled by Braeden Davis or Aaron Nagao, each of whom is at 133 this season. Additionally, Dalton Perry of Central Mountain, the nation’s third-ranked 138-pounder, is committed to arrive at Penn State next fall as well.
He also defeated Purdue’s Matt Ramos, currently ranked No. 1 at 125 pounds, last fall, and knocked off Fix at the World Team Trials. He’s won the 55-kilo title in the U-17 World Championships and was third at the U-20 Worlds and second in the USA World Team Trials. His fifth season, under circumstances like those of Penn State’s Carter Starocci, who is eyeing a fifth NCAA title, came about because of an Olympic redshirt and the extra year of eligibility because of COVID-19.“Minnesota has given me everything and now it’s my turn to give it right back to them, to put my feet back on the wrestling mat, to be the champ one more time,” Steveson said in a UM press release.
