Though Star Wars' lightsabers are iconic, the Naruto world's chakra blades have a key advantage that makes them more devastating in battle; they're completely powered by their wielder's energy.

It might seem unlikely that the ninja world of Naruto would have anything even approaching Star Wars' iconic lightsabers. As the workhorse of the Jedi, Sith, and other Force users, the sight of a lightsaber igniting struck fear in the hearts of countless beings across the galaxy. Still, despite its lethality, the lightsaber was not invincible. The Mandalorian dark saber proved to be its match. However, one weapon that would surely overpower a lightsaber is Naruto’s “chakra blade.

Unlike the lightsaber, chakra blades were not commonly used in the Naruto universe. Originally introduced in chapter #119 of Naruto, early versions had special metal blades that allowed users like Asuma Sarutobi to channel their chakra into the weapon, making them sharper or more durable than any other blade. Later, in chapter #18 of Boruto, a more advanced chakra blade was designed by the Special Ninja Weapons group.

What makes a chakra blade more powerful than a lightsaber is that its blade is not generated by a power source and crystals but rather by or through the user. A chakra blade absorbs a user’s chakra and reformulates it in the form of the blade. Put another way, a chakra blade is an extension of a user’s chakra. Accordingly, the blade that is emitted will be as strong, or weak, as the user’s chakra.

Introducing chakra blades into the Star War universe would surely give the Jedi and Sith a reason to consider mothballing the ancient lightsaber. The chakra blade's ability to tap into a user’s Force ability and channel that into a Force blade would vastly increase their combat abilities and the usefulness of lightsabers in battle. While the issue of their draining effect is a concern, this can likely be overcome with the proper training and actual adjustment to the device.
